Join the UConn Health Disparities Institute and Health Equity Solutions for the 2nd annual #HealthEquityWeek!
April 5 – 11, 2020
Health Equity Week is a week-long annual campaign created to bring awareness and start conversations on advancing health equity throughout the state of Connecticut.
In 2019, the UConn Health Disparities Institute (HDI) participated in the initial launch of Health Equity Week held at the State of Connecticut Legislative Building and introduced the release of their inaugural CT Report Card on Health Equity among Boys and Men of Color.
This year, HDI and Health Equity Solutions issue a call to action to center health equity in Connecticut’s COVID-19 pandemic response. We call for the consistent collection and public reporting of race, ethnicity, and language data for COVID-19 testing, cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. We also recommend that standardized data collection is required across health, basic needs, and economic supports, such as Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and unemployment. We hope you join these actions so that emergency responses across systems of care can be utilized to address the most medically underserved populations.
To continue the conversation, share and follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

Mapping Health Disparities in Response to COVID-19
Data available in CT on PolicyMap allows the ability to interactively visualize multiple data sets and zoom to areas by county, and zipcode to view underlying data, such as census level data and layer with COVID-19. Recent reports have illuminated disparities of COVID-19. We can illustrate the power of the utility of visualizing data by the measure of county percent change in deaths by race/ethnicity populations.
