School of Nursing

I was born in Sylhet, a large metropolitan city in eastern Bangladesh, but immigrated to the United States at a young age. I was then raised in Manchester, Connecticut where I still reside. 

I have volunteered with the Red Cross, my local mosque, and with MACC Charities, which encompasses a soup kitchen, food pantry, and thrift store. During my volunteer experiences with MACC, I frequently worked with underserved populations, many of whom lacked secure housing. This past summer, I worked with children with special needs and disabilities, catering to their unique living experiences disrupted Covid-19.

I sought involvement in the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) program because, as a nursing student, I know I will be directly responsible for patient experiences. I want to be equipped to provide quality care to all patients, especially those from vulnerable backgrounds. There exist numerous obstacles to health care in the United States, but with the knowledge I can gain through the UST/AS Program, I can work towards bridging the service gap affecting underserved populations. I am eager to learn new skills, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals in order to make a positive impact in the community.
