Talia Savic
School of Medicine Class of 2015 (MD/MPH candidate)
I was born and raised in Berlin, Connecticut. I graduated from Colby College with a B.A. in Biology with a Concentration in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry.
While at Colby College, I worked as an EMT on the Colby Emergency Response Team, mentored a local 7-year-old child for 4 years as part of the Colby Cares About Kids program, and volunteered at Maine General Hospital in Waterville, Maine. After graduating from Colby, I worked as a research assistant at Children’s Hospital Boston in the Genetics division where I focused on studying skeletal myopathies.
As a dual degree MD/MPH student, I actively sought opportunities to get involved in advocacy work and community outreach during my time in medical school. UST provided me with the opportunity to work with the varied underserved communities in Hartford. In addition, I gained valuable leadership experience under remarkable mentors. The skills I learned in UST have prepared me for my future community health and advocacy work in my residency and beyond. I hope to continue exploring the combination of clinical work, community health, and public health I focused on in UST in my future career as a pediatrician.
