Quinnipiac University Physician Assistant Program
I grew up in Maynard, Massachusetts and graduated from Quinnipiac University with a Bachelor of Science in 2022.
I have spent time volunteering as a camp counselor over the past two summers at Camp Promise and C.A.M.P. camp. These are summer programs for people with disabilities that allow them to take part in physical activities like rock climbing, canoeing, etc. I also volunteer for events in her community such as the annual Evening of Giving in Marlboro, Massachusetts, which raises money for Willis House, a local family shelter.
I want to get involved in the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program to learn how to best provide equitable care to her patients. I am frequently frustrated by living in a world that is grossly inequitable, especially with regard to health care. I am passionate about learning how to maximize healthcare access for everyone because everyone deserves to have control of their own health, instead being controlled by it. As an undergraduate, I took a capstone class called “social determinants of health,” which led me to ascribe great importance to the class’ titular phenomenon. I focused on researching the impact of climate change on women’s health, specifically how it disproportionately affects lower-income individuals. I want to continue learning about how social determinants of health can negatively impact health access and the outcomes of health care so that as a future provider she can collaborate to improve these.
