Sarah Cryer
UConn School of Medicine Class of 2016
I was born and raised in Stamford, Conn., and graduated in 2010 with a B.A. in Chemistry from Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. I have volunteered in a number of varied settings, including working as a hospice volunteer in Boston, performing clinical research on lung cancer at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, assisting with English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees, using hippotherapy –or equine-assisted therapy – at Root Farm in N.Y. to help mentally handicapped children develop fine motor and language skills. I am interested in learning methods for improving the quality of healthcare both on a national level and on a smaller scale, such as in private and group practices. I think it is important to find ways to stop the rising cost of healthcare and to make it more accessible to regular Americans. The Urban Service Track is an opportunity to learn more about the disparities in the healthcare system and develop ways to lessen these disparities through interdisciplinary work.
