Sarah Caruso

UConn School of Pharmacy

I was born and raised in Chelmsford, MA. I am in my second professional year at the UConn School of Pharmacy, and will earn my doctor of pharmacy degree in 2028.

My interest in community service began in high school, where I volunteered at various  events that focused on helping others and giving back to the community. Since 2021, I  have worked as a lifeguard at the Greater Lowell Family YMCA in Massachusetts and at local beaches that serve a diverse range of individuals, including many from underserved

communities. Working with families from different backgrounds has deepened my  appreciation for the barriers many face in accessing safe, supportive environments. Through these experiences, I have learned to prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of the people I serve.

I sought involvement in UST/AS to improve my communication skills and develop  confidence collaborating with healthcare professionals and community members. This  program offers the unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on underserved  populations while also preparing me to become a well-rounded pharmacist. I believe that  trust and empathy are essential attributes for fostering meaningful relationships with patients. I value being someone who can help create a welcoming, supportive environment where people can feel heard and understood.
