Sai Viswanathan
UConn School of Medicine
I’m Sai Viswanathan, an incoming medical student in UCONN SOM’s class of 2027. I was born in southern India, shortly after which I moved to England and eventually to Avon, CT, which has been my home for many years now. During my time spent volunteering the ED in Hartford Hospital and serving in Central CT AHEC, I realized that health outcomes are determined beyond the clinic, that preventative care and healthcare education were just as important as emergency care, especially in urban environments. These experiences motivated me to get involved in health disparities research, eventually developing my own project evaluating the relationship between implicit racial bias and pain care in pediatric sickle cell patients. Collectively, all these experiences have motivated me to join UST, in order to become a future provider who understands the multidimensional problems that health disparities pose for communities, and become a provider that meets patients and communities where they’re at through compassion, understanding and cultural humility.
