Robert Violette
UConn School of Dental Medicine
I was born and raised in Wallingford, Connecticut. I received a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Connecticut.
While at UConn, I volunteered at the Connecticut Mission of Mercy, a clinic providing free dental care to the underserved in Connecticut. There, I paired patients with dentists, and performed various other functions throughout the facility. Through the program Global Brigades, I travelled abroad to Nicaragua to provide care to those in need: we provided public health initiatives and free health care to Nicaraguans from both urban and rural regions. For each year of my undergraduate career, I took part in HuskyTHON. This 18-hour dance marathon raised funds for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, making UConn one of its top donors.
I knew I wanted to join the Urban Service Track the moment I learned about it. It’s rare that health care initiatives bring together health care professionals from as many disciplines as the UST does; the opportunity to work among such diversity will help me become a well-rounded health care professional able to provide superior care to my patients. As well, the UST’s location in Connecticut will allow me to improve the lives of those in the state in which I’ve lived for so long, and to which I feel such deep attachment.
