Phoebe Bergstraser
UConn School of Nursing
I was born and raised in Hopewell Junction, NY, which is a small suburban town in Dutchess
County. I graduated from John Jay Senior High School in 2021, and I plan to graduate from
UConn in 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
I have always been committed to helping others, and I was a Girl Scout from kindergarten
through my senior year of high school, where I have had various volunteer experiences. I was
also involved in the Interact Club in high school where I was selected to attend the Rotary Youth
Leadership Awards conference. I am currently a member of the Red Cross Club here at UConn,
where I have volunteered at several blood drives.
I sought involvement in the Urban Service Track because I believe it is a perfect opportunity for
me to not only gain useful clinical skills, but to also be able to make a true impact on the health
of vulnerable populations. Over the last few years of living through the COVID-19 pandemic, it
has become even more apparent to me how important public health and access to quality
healthcare is. My goal is to learn how to best advocate for my patients and to gain a better
understanding of how to best help underserved communities
