Matthew Mastropietro
School of Pharmacy
I was born and raised in Wolcott, Connecticut and currently work at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden, Connecticut as a Pharmacy Intern. I graduated from Quinnipiac University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science degree in health science studies and minors in both chemistry and biomedical sciences. I then transferred into UConn’s School of Pharmacy where I will obtain my Pharm.D in 2025.
While in high school and while completing my undergraduate degree at Quinnipiac, I participated in many different volunteer experiences with underserved communities. My most important opportunity was when I volunteered on a surgical floor of Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut. While there, I assisted the nurses and CNAs with various tasks, but the tasks I enjoyed the most were my interactions with the patients. My most rewarding experiences were having casual conversations with the patients, getting to know them, and trying to lift up their spirits.
As a member of the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program, I will be able to expand my skillset, improve my ability to communicate and understand patient populations, and become a better pharmacist. The UST/AS Program’s various community outreach projects are a great opportunity to gain critical experience that will help me to succeed all while helping underserved communities in my community.
