UConn School of Pharmacy

I was born and raised in Connecticut, and have bachelor’s degrees in molecular cell biology and pharmacy studies. I am attending the UConn School of Pharmacy, and will graduate in 2021.

I first volunteered with vulnerable populations in high school through the Migrant Farm Workers Clinics program. I am now on the pharmacy board for the Clinics, where I help manage the medication inventory.  In 2016 and 2017, I traveled with other students and doctors to Ritsona, Greece to volunteer at refugee camps. Our work garnered significant monetary donations and we were able to obtain and distribute medical supplies, clothing, and food.

The Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars program will require that I demonstrate leadership and initiative in healthcare settings, and this opportunity to hone my leadership abilities will aid my future goal of helping underserved populations surmount the barriers to healthcare they face. I will also have the chance to fill gaps in my knowledge of pharmacy practice among these populations. The program’s interdisciplinary focus best mirrors actual medical practice, in which I will work with an inter-professional team that includes medical, nursing, dental, and PA students and professionals. Success in patient care comes from the ability of each member of a team to collaborate with one another and to understand what each brings to the table. The UST/AS Program will help me understand and appreciate the value of both my own role and the roles of other team members.
