Marisa Boch
UConn School of Medicine
I was born and raised in Waterford, Connecticut. I graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2018 as an Honors and University Scholar with a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering and a B.S. in Molecular & Cell Biology.
As an undergraduate, I participated in MEDLIFE mobile clinic trips to Lima and Riobamba, where I provided medical care, dental care, and health education to underserved communities. I also participated in an alternative spring break trip to Immokalee, Florida, where I collaborated with community organizations to provide relief to the migrant farm worker population by constructing and improving low-income housing facilities and packaging donated food for distribution.
Through my experience volunteering, I have witnessed how external factors limit access to health care for marginalized populations. In my future career as a physician, I aspire to combat these limitations and to provide medical care to underserved and disaster-stricken communities. The Urban Service Track will allow me to further dedicate myself to community service and public health; it will supplement my medical school curriculum with both an understanding of population health and advocacy, and with hands-on experience providing health care to urban communities. The UST will help me develop the skill-sets and knowledge necessary to promote the health of the community, expanding my scope as a physician beyond the health of individuals and providing a platform to achieve my career goals.
