Margaret Waweru
UConn School of Social Work
I was born and raised in Kenya, and have obtained a bachelor of science degree in health education from Rhode Island College.
I currently volunteer at my local church, where I work with children and seniors. I have worked with young adults and families in the human services field, and have witnessed the impact of social determinants of health.
I sought involvement in UST/AS because it will equip me with the tools to become a better provider to urban communities. My time at UST/AS will help me gain cultural competencies and experience in interprofessional collaboration, which is essential for providing appropriate services and resources. I believe UST/AS is the best track to prepare me and other healthcare professionals with the skills needed to help the community around us achieve optimal health.
