UConn School of Medicine

I was born and raised in Hopedale, Massachusetts. I graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2018 with a B.S. in molecular and cell biology. As an undergraduate, I was accepted to UConn’s 4+1 accelerated Master of Public Health program, and I graduated with my MPH in 2019.

While both an undergraduate and graduate student, I worked as a medical scribe in a Hartford emergency department where I was introduced to the unique healthcare challenges faced by urban underserved populations. Desiring a more interventionist role, I became a 2018 Hayley Petit Violence and Injury Prevention Fellow of Connecticut Children’s Injury Prevention Center.  After the fellowship, I continued to work with the Injury Prevention Center as a volunteer research assistant conducting evaluative research on substance use screening and intervention effectiveness among urban trauma patients.

The Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Program will build upon my extant public health education and permit me to insert my skills and knowledge into a clinical context. Most importantly, the UST/AS Program offers, both during and after my time as a medical student, access to a network of like-minded peers and mentors who share the goal of achieving health equity. Teams with multifarious backgrounds, interests, and skill sets are critical to address modern urban healthcare problems requiring complex solutions. With the UST/AS Program’s opportunities for leadership development, research, and community outreach, I will better understand and address the needs of whichever population I serve as a physician and public health leader.
