Kathryn Forth

UConn School of Dental Medicine

I was born in Massachusetts and spent most of my childhood in the town of Lakeville, Massachusetts. I attended the Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

My experiences working with urban underserved populations have come primarily through working as a counselor at the YMCA-affiliated Camp Yomechas and volunteering as a patient escort at the Connecticut Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic. In particular, many children in my group at Camp Yomechas lived in homeless shelters in the nearby city of Brockton, and were solely able to attend camp thanks to scholarships. My time as these children’s counselor has impelled me to focus my professional ambitions on intertwining service and health care.

I chose to become involved with the Urban Service Track in order to expand the breadth of my education and skills. The opportunities to work with other disciplines will allow me to provide more holistic care to my patients as well as to better understand my field in itself and in its relations to other fields. I plan to use my practical and technical knowledge from the UST to improve access to effective and affordable dental care and education.
