Kaitlynn Brito Torres

UConn School of Nursing

I grew up in New London, CT in a Latino household (Peruvian and Ecuadorian). I am a
first-generation college student and the oldest of all my siblings.
Last year I started working as an EMT in Norwich, CT. I am also continuing my involvement in
UConn SSS peer-advising to first-year minority students and working alongside an advisor to
carry it out. I also participate in community service through UConn’s community outreach
program.

I decided to participate in UST/AS in order to further and add to my skills as a developing
healthcare professional in order to best represent underserved groups and promote their
confidence of understanding their own health. UST/AS will provide me with the means and
grounds to come together across disciplines to advance the quality of life of others. UST/AS will
provide us the tools to interprofessional communicate, critically reflect, transferable skills and
technical skills, and adaptability to a variety of clinical settings
