Joshua Jones
UConn School of Medicine, Class of 2019
I was raised in Gloucester, Virginia, a rural town near Williamsburg. I attended The Hartt School in West Hartford, Connecticut where I received a Bachelors of Music in Classical Guitar Performance.
While teaching music in the Hartford Area I volunteered at the Grace Academy in downtown Hartford where I tutored underserved girls in math and guitar. It was there I saw how everybody, when given the chance, can achieve truly amazing things. These experiences inspired me to devote my career in medicine to helping those who lack the resources to live healthy, happy, and productive lives. With the Urban Service Track, I am excited to learn innovative ways to help the US’s most vulnerable populations. I believe it is our responsibility as the next generation of healthcare professionals to develop a healthcare system that delivers services to whoever needs them most. It is up to us to ensure that our healthcare system continues to evolve in a way that represents our values as a society: no one deserves to be overlooked and everyone deserves a chance to live a full and productive life.
