Jessica MacIntyre
School of Medicine
I was born in Danbury, Connecticut, and raised in Bethel, Connecticut. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in cognitive neuroscience and my Master of Science in surgical neurophysiology.
I have volunteered as a Site Leader for Big Brothers Big Sisters and served as the Youth Development and Education for Children Coordinator for UConn’s Community Outreach program. I also served for three years as a Morale Captain for HuskyTHON, UConn’s largest fundraising event for Connecticut Children’s. Additionally, prior to beginning medical school, I volunteered as an EMT while also interning for the Regional EMS Coordinator for Nuvance Health in Danbury Hospital’s Emergency Department.
When I discovered the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program, I felt immediately inspired by it. I am ecstatic to supplement my medical education with service-learning opportunities that will aid in my goal of developing health programs for underserved urban communities. One goal of mine is to expand health education and health care access for LGBTQIA+ youth. The Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program will equip me with the tools to continue my journey towards becoming a physician who incorporates advocacy, inclusivity, and cultural competency into my practice to better serve my patients.
