Jasmine Morris
UConn School of Social Work
I am from East Hartford, CT. I recently graduated from the University of Connecticut with a double degree in animal science as well as applied and resource economics. I also completed two minors in therapeutic horsemanship education and equine business management.
I have worked with the Horizons program since the summer of 2016. Horizons at The Ethel Walker School is the nation’s first all-girls Horizons program, serving underserved students in pre-K through 8th grade who attend Hartford public schools. I have worked in a variety of roles at Horizons, including as a teaching assistant, assistant teacher, and volunteer coordinator. I have also developed my own class, which I taught last summer to middle school students. I also have volunteered at Manes & Motions, a therapeutic riding facility in Middletown, CT. At Manes, I have worked as an office intern, sidewalker, horse leader, and barn assistant.
I sought involvement with UST/AS because I believe that it will give me the tools to support urban communities. The experiences gained through this program will allow me to have the tools to create programming that will better target urban communities of color so that I can help them.
