Jasmine Maggio
UConn School of Medicine
I was born in Houston, TX, but spent most of my childhood in Princeton, NJ. I obtained my bachelor of science degree in molecular and cell biology, with a secondary degree in linguistics/philosophy, at the University of Connecticut in 2025. I have previous experience as a nationally registered emergency medical technician in both Princeton and Neptune, NJ. Additionally, I have volunteered in multiple roles at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, primarily in the emergency room and patient services, helped run campus blood drives through the UConn Red Cross Club, and engaged in several community service initiatives via Alpha Phi Omega.
I want to become involved with the UST/AS Program because I have a strong desire to ultimately serve as a physician in a medically underserved area, and believe that this program is the best way to develop the experience, connections, and knowledge to do so. I have a longstanding interest in healthcare policy and its intersection with politics, and want to further this interest by studying the communities that have been failed by the American healthcare system the most so that I can help to develop longstanding solutions in place of shortsighted reforms. These problems can only be fully characterized through sustained interactions with affected communities, something the UST/AS Program allows me to get a taste of as I complete my medical school education.
