Janiris Lopez

UConn School of Dental Medicine, Class of 2015

I was raised in Methuen, Mass. I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.S. in Biological Sciences.  Recently I’ve been working with programs such as the Migrant Farm Workers Clinic and Health education at the American School for the Deaf. During my undergraduate career I had the opportunity to help in programs that promote oral heal for children, like CT Mission of Mercy, Orphanage Outreach Health Corps, and HUSKY reads at the Burgdorf clinic. My experience in each one of the programs was so different and I gained knowledge about certain populations which has altered my career goals completely. I’m working to ensure that the care I provide for my future patients is maximized to its full advantage so that I can honestly say I am doing all that can to provide the BEST care.  I’m glad UST is going to help me gain the experiences I will need to become the kind of dentist I aspire to be. In order to be a dentist FOR the community I will need as much experience and education as I can get about the community and what its needs are. The combination of my personal experiences and the ones UST will add to my life will help me pursue my career goals.
