Garett Guimond

Quinnipiac University Physician Assistant, Class of 2019

I was born and raised in Enfield, Connecticut. I have obtained my Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Quinnipiac University in 2017.

My volunteer experience is mostly in international contexts. I have participated in different aid programs in Costa Rica, Uganda, and Nicaragua. I have worked for two years as an Emergency Medical Technician in a local ambulance service and for one year as a Certified Nursing Aid in a skilled nursing facility.

I sought involvement in the Urban Service Track program because of its focus on underserved populations. These populations are generally impoverished and face multiple barriers preventing them from accessing healthcare. I believe that healthcare is a universal human right; this is the fundamental idea driving my ambition to be a healthcare provider. To enact this idea, there must be a preferential option for the poor in healthcare. Diseases already overwhelmingly affect the economically disadvantaged, but our healthcare system generally ignores these cases, and provides preferential treatment toward those most able to pay for healthcare. The UST will provide me will the tools and the education necessary to integrate my ideas and beliefs into my practices as a health care provider. I will be not only a PA, but also a voice for those left mute and with diminished defenses in the current healthcare system.
