Gabriella Ahle

UConn School of Medicine

I was born and raised in the Bronx, New York until the age of 12 when my family moved to Fairfield, CT. I attended Barnard College and graduated in 2013 with a degree in Psychology.

Following graduation, I worked as a Clinical Research Coordinator at the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program at Mount Sinai in New York. In this role, I was responsible for the recruitment, screening, and enrollment of study participants into clinical trials testing novel treatments for major depression. After two trans-formative years in this position, I decided to return to school and complete my pre-medical prerequisites through a post-baccalaureate program at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. During this time, I also worked part-time as a medical scribe at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and volunteered weekly at the Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance (MANNA), a non-profit organization that provides nutritionally-balanced meals to disadvantaged individuals battling life-threatening illnesses. Currently, I work as a scribe at Oak Street Health, an innovative primary care center focused on providing personalized care and education to underserved geriatric patients on Medicare.

Through working with mentally ill patients, volunteering at food pantries, and helping deliver quality primary care to underserved elderly, I have gained broad perspective on the challenges faced by vulnerable communities. I believe there is a close relationship between an individual’s health, the health of a community, and access to preventative medicine and health education. I applied to the Urban Service Track because I believe all individuals regardless of race, religious belief or socioeconomic status deserve comprehensive, high-quality health care.
