Gabriela Resto
UConn School of Pharmacy
I was born and raised in East Windsor, Connecticut. I will graduate from UConn with a degree in pharmacy in 2020, and will obtain my Pharm.D from UConn in 2022. In East Windsor, I interned with the Big Y Community Pharmacy. Farther afield, I have taken part in UConn PIRE’s interdisciplinary research program in both Storrs and in Ethiopia.
I sought involvement in the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars program because in addition to obtaining my Pharm.D, I hope to obtain a Master of Public Health degree in order to become a public health pharmacist and to specialize in providing healthcare to underserved populations, especially ethnic minority communities in urban settings. As a Latina who grew up in a rural setting, I hope that the UST/AS Program will help me bridge these two components of my identity so that I can give back to the communities that I identify with and advocate for their needs by engaging with public policy. I also hope that the UST/AS Program will expose me to work with interdisciplinary healthcare teams in order to prepare me for such work later in my career.
