Elizabeth Lachat
UConn School of Social Work, Class of 2017
I grew up in East Windsor CT and received my Bachelors of Social Work at Rhode Island College in Providence.
I have volunteered at the Rhode Island Food Bank and a number of Food Pantries in Rhode Island and Connecticut. I interned and worked at a mental health agency in Rhode Island working with young children from urban areas in which I was able to see how health inequities directly affect the treatment people receive. I currently work in a group home in New Britain for teenage boys and will be interning this year with survivors of the Cambodian Holocaust and the members of their family.
I am interested in taking my social work degree into a medical field and hope that the Urban Service Track can jump start my experience in medical settings and urban areas. I would like to expand my volunteer experiences to different communities and think it is great that the Urban Service Track gives me that opportunity with colleagues of similar educational and professional goals and interests by my side.
