Edward Hochman
UConn School of Medicine, Class of 2019
I was born in Derby, CT. I was raised in Woodbridge, CT, and received my undergraduate degree from Cornell University in 2015.
Every summer and winter break throughout college, I volunteered at Yale-New Haven Hospital’s Elder Horizons Program, a delirium-prevention program for patients 70 years of age and older. As an undergraduate, I served as Co-President of Cornell Project Generations and Treasurer of Cornell Elderly Partnership, two volunteer organizations that help to bridge the gap between students and older adults in Tompkins County, NY.
My desire to help underserved populations is at the core of my motivation not only to apply to the Urban Service Track, but also to become a physician. Throughout high school and college, I felt driven to help vulnerable populations, and I hope to continue to serve them as part of the Urban Service Track and throughout my medical career. I believe that being a doctor is just as much about communicating effectively with other health care professionals in coordinating care as it is about actively caring for the patient. The Urban Service Track will provide me an opportunity to engage in such interdisciplinary collaboration in order to help maximize the impact collections of doctors can have in the health care system.
