Daniel Chen
UConn School of Pharmacy, Class of 2015
I was born in Japan and my family moved to China when I was 6 years old. At age 13, I moved to the United States. I am interested in UST, because throughout my life I have seen many underserved people fall through the cracks of society. During my high school years, I helped out in many school- or church-sponsored community services, like raking leaves and snow removal. While I was participating in these community services, I got to know many of the underserved war veterans in the community. When I arrived at UConn, I joined the UConn Red Cross club and volunteered in many blood drives and informational outreach activities. I also volunteered at one of the Habitat for Humanity work sites, where I was able to work with people in poverty. As a healthcare professional, I believe it is my responsibility and duty to help those who are less fortunate. The UST is a great opportunity for me to carry out this goal and work with other healthcare professional with similar ideals. I hope that through my experience with the UST, I can gain a better understand of the underserved and learn useful skills to help the less fortunate after I graduate.
