Claire Murphy

UConn School of Medicine

I am from Wethersfield, CT, and completed my undergraduate education at the University of Connecticut. I earned a bachelor of science degree in molecular and cell biology and a bachelor of science in Global Health, Gender, and Reproduction, with a minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, in May 2025.

Throughout college, I was deeply involved in sexual and reproductive health advocacy. I served as UConn’s Sexual Health and Wellness Advocacy Coordinator, where I designed and led Period Box, an initiative that provided students with free menstrual products. Through the BOLD Women’s Leadership Network, I expanded this work statewide by creating a website that offers educational content and helps Connecticut residents locate free menstrual products. Additionally, as a Sexpert Peer Health Educator, I provided programming and peer-to-peer education on sexual health topics, further deepening my interest in outreach and health education.

I have also been a longtime volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House, where I began helping at age 12 after staying there with my family. I assist with organizing meals and activities for families navigating pediatric illness, which has strengthened my commitment to compassionate, community-based care.

I joined the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Program because I care deeply about the communities I grew up around, and I aspire to be a physician who goes beyond treating illness and become one who listens, teaches, and advocates alongside patients. I am eager to learn from this program and gain the tools to help build a more equitable and responsive health care system.
