Christine Khalil
UConn School of Dental Medicine
Born and raised in Bethlehem Township, NJ, I earned my B.A. in biology, with a minor in chemistry, from Rutgers University, where I was a member of the Honors College.
My commitment to service is reflected in my diverse volunteer experiences. I have participated in medical mission trips to Namibia and Bolivia, where I worked as a dental assistant alongside healthcare professionals, including dentists, primary care doctors, optometrists, pharmacists, and surgeons. These experiences deepened my understanding of the challenges faced by underserved populations and solidified my dedication to providing comprehensive care. Additionally, I have volunteered at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, NJ, preparing and serving food to patients, and at Give Kids a Smile Days, where I assisted dentists in providing free dental care to children. My work with KinderSmile nonprofit dental clinic further refined my skills in serving pediatric patients.
The Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Program aligns with my goal of addressing dental care disparities in underserved communities with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration. Through UST/AS, I aim to deepen my understanding of the specific dental health needs of urban populations and develop strategies to improve access to care. I look forward to engaging in community outreach and learning from a diverse team, which will empower me to make a significant impact in my field and advocate for equitable healthcare. I believe understanding and addressing the unique dental needs of underserved urban populations is crucial for improving oral health outcomes. I am excited to work with an interdisciplinary team to develop targeted solutions and ensure that all patients receive the high-quality care they deserve.
