Candice Quarella

UConn School of Medicine, Class of 2021

I was born in Newton, Massachusetts, and after living in both Canada and Illinois, spent most of my childhood in South Windsor, Connecticut. I then moved to Boston where I obtained both a Bachelor of Science in Health Science and a Master of Public Health from Northeastern University.

I have spent four years volunteering with Peer Health Exchange (PHE), a national non-profit dedicated to providing comprehensive health education to underserved high school students. I worked with PHE as a health educator, Leadership Council member, and as a Coordinator of the Northeastern University chapter. I also worked at Brigham and Women’s Hospital as a urology medical assistant, and at the Boston Public Health Commission in the Bureau of Recovery Services. These professional and volunteer experiences, coupled with my work on my Master’s in Public Health, inspired me to incorporate work with underserved populations into my future career as a physician.

I look forward to continuing to merge my passion for clinical medicine with my passion for public health as part of the Urban Service Track. I believe that health is a human right regardless of race, class, income, or education level. I wish to dedicate my career as a physician not only to helping my patients achieve health and well-being, but also to working towards equality in health and health care. The knowledge gained from the UST will enable me to collaborate with other aspiring health care professionals towards eliminating health disparities and incorporating an awareness of social determinants of health into my everyday practice as a physician.
