Quinnipiac University Physician Assistant Program

I was born in Northwestern Connecticut in the town of New Hartford, a very rural area comprising mostly farmland. My elementary schools were extremely small and my high school drew students from four different towns. Most town residents were white and middle class.

Before PA school, I had mainly volunteered at nursing homes and a very involved summer camp ran by the Muscular Dystrophy Association. I found working with both of these populations, the elderly and children marginalized in many aspects of their life, very rewarding. In my work as an EMT, I frequently come in contact with the horrors faced by neglected populations: most of my patients come from populations who are pushed to the side and left to deteriorate by society.

I think that Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program provides me with an impressive resource and learning opportunity. I grew up living a fairly sheltered life, but as a PA, I believe it would be most just to work with those who have lived unsheltered lives. I want to understand the issues that are facing the least protected members of our society, and to do what I can to improve their circumstances.
