I grew up in Harwinton, CT and obtained my bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and master’s degree in medical science from the University of Vermont.
I gained an interest working with underserved populations volunteering as an EMT through high school and college. I also had the opportunity to perform COVID-19 testing and vaccination for individuals in and around Burlington, VT during the pandemic, which bolstered my interest in working as a healthcare provider in an urban setting. After graduating with my Master’s degree, I moved back to Connecticut and worked as an EMT in New Milford and Hartford.
I found a lot of satisfaction in working EMS in an urban environment that I felt I missed working in more rural areas. I enjoyed advocating for my patients care needs and taking on difficult situations without clear cut solutions. In my time working in this environment, I encountered many patients who, for various reasons, had slipped through the cracks of the healthcare system. I intend to use my experiences in UST to improve the quality of care for underserved communities in the Hartford area by educating patients on healthy behaviors and engaging them to overcome the individual obstacles they face in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
