UConn School of Medicine

I was born and raised in Newtown, CT, and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from UConn in Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) and in Physiology and Neurobiology.

During my undergraduate career at UConn, I volunteered for Generations Family Health Center in Willimantic, CT, and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, CT. While volunteering, I observed many of the health care inequalities facing the underserved populations of Connecticut; these observations increased my interest in both medicine and public health. In the year before matriculating at the UConn School of Medicine, I worked in the NICU of Boston Children’s Hospital as a clinical research assistant, which further augmented my desire to intensively research public health in my medical career.

I was especially motivated to join the UConn School of Medicine by its emphasis on team-based, interdisciplinary medicine, and the Urban Service Track epitomizes that emphasis. I know that the UST will help me continue constructing a foundation of skills and knowledge in community medicine and research as well as public health. At the same time, in addition to traditional academic pursuits, the program will allow me to immediately take part in and support a dedicated network of students and health care providers striving to improve the conditions for Connecticut’s underserved populations.
