UConn School of Medicine, Class of 2019

I was born in Amman, Jordan and moved to Puerto Rico when I was about one year old. Since the age of three, I have lived in Rhode Island, Jordan and Connecticut. I graduated from Fairfield University with a B.S. in Biochemistry in 2014.

Since my freshmen year of college, I have been participating in volunteer opportunities with urban communities through another AHEC program called the Collegiate Health Service Corps (CHSC). After graduating, I worked as a Program Coordinator for the CHSC and the Youth Health Service Corps (YHSC), a program associated with Southwestern AHEC. I have coordinated projects to teach healthy living and how to prevent chronic diseases. One of the new partnerships I have helped develop is with two transitional living centers in Bridgeport, CT. I also work with college students to develop workshops to educate children, teens and adults about nutrition, exercise, dental health, STDs and more.

I would like to be a part of the Urban Service Track in order to continue working with underserved urban communities as well as to connect with other health care providers that are crucial for providing holistic care to patients. I plan to become a primary care physician working with underserved communities and I have no doubt that UST will allow me to improve as a physician without isolating me from the communities I hope to continue to serve.
