UConn School of Pharmacy, Class of 2017

I grew up in an urban neighborhood in Naugatuck, CT. Recently I received my B.S. in Pharmacy Studies. As a pre-pharmacy student I started working at Rite-Aid Pharmacy and am currently a pharmacy intern at Yale New Haven Hospital. Before attending pharmacy school, I spent a summer volunteering at Yale New Haven Hospital. One of my tasks was to go to patient rooms with a Medication Reconciliation Technician and ask the patients about their past and current medications. Some of the patients I encountered were either elderly or English was not their first language in which I had to work with a translator. I also had the privilege of rounding on hospital floors with a team of doctors, medical residents, pharmacists, pharmacy residents and nurses. I really enjoyed this particular atmosphere where health professionals worked together to meet the needs of the patient. Furthermore, I would like to get more involved with working with a team of professionals that are focused on actively treating and helping a wide variety of populations. I am eager to be a part of the Urban Service Track which I know will provide me with such an opportunity. I will have the chance to use the information that I learned in school and apply it outside of the classroom. Personally, I want to build up experiences within the Urban Service Track that I can use for a lifetime so I can see patient improvements.
