Ashley Arthur

UConn School of Dental Medicine, Class of 2021

I was born in Hartford, Connecticut and raised in West Hartford, Connecticut. I earned my B.S. in Marketing from the University of Connecticut in 2017.

I volunteered at Saint Francis Hospital where I worked closely with registered nurses to understand patient needs and aid in patient discharge. Also, I took part in a Health Disparities Summer Program where I learned about Connecticut’s health disparities and volunteered for the non-profit End HungerCT! In addition, I volunteered for United Way as a Volunteer Reader, encouraging students to read and think critically about the text. Furthermore, I participated in Leading Off Campus, a Leadership Greater Hartford program comprised of workshops, meetings, and projects which allowed me to learn about Hartford’s assets and challenges. My leadership team saw the need for support services for Hartford’s homeless population, thus all the funds generated from our project were donated to the South Park Inn.

I am drawn to UST because of the focus on interdisciplinary teamwork and the opportunity to integrate classroom knowledge with hands-on experience. Through UST I will gain a broader understanding of the changes in healthcare plus, the leadership skills needed to improve the lives of underserved/vulnerable populations. Blending my passion for service and networking, UST will equip me to interact effectively with providers from other disciplines to reduce some of health care’s biggest disparities. I want to help bridge the gap between populations in need and premium quality healthcare.
