Annie Jin
UConn School of Medicine
I was born in Ames, Iowa, but moved around a lot in my childhood and have lived in five different states and two different countries. I spent most of my later childhood in Milford, Connecticut. I graduated from UConn with a dual degree in molecular cellular biology and nutritional sciences.
I am very passionate about volunteering to help underserved populations, patients, and children. In high school, I was a tutor at a local elementary school and a volunteer YMCA camp counselor. I have been volunteering at Milford Hospital since 2012, and have also volunteered at Covenant Soup Kitchen, MedLife, Yale New Haven Hospital, and with China Care. I will be volunteering at the migrant farm workers clinic in the summer of 2019.
I have been interested in the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Program ever since I attended a learning retreat called “Interprofessional Teams and the Homeless.” It was an eye-opening experience, and one of my favorite memories from my undergraduate. I realized that the UST/AS Program would help me become a doctor that effectively and respectfully serves underserved populations. Today, some people are forced to decide whether to get medical attention for their illness or to pay for their next meal. As a doctor, I will strive to help people that are suffering from predicaments like these get the medical care they need.
