Andrew Shapiro
UConn School of Medicine
Andrew was born and raised in Blue Bell, PA, about 45 minutes outside of Philadelphia. He obtained his B.A. degree from the College of the Holy Cross in 2023.
Andrew conducted clinical research at Yale School of Medicine for two years before starting medical school at UConn. He worked on several clinical trials that collected patient-centered recovery data after various anesthetics. While in New Haven, he volunteered to work on phonics and reading comprehension skills with low-income grade-school students through New Haven Reads
He sought involvement in UST/AS primarily to connect with other healthcare professionals who are passionate about providing care to underserved communities. He says, “UST/AS will uniquely position me to work in interdisciplinary teams and drive systemic change to improve healthcare and access to care for communities lacking resources.” While undecided about his specialty, he believes that UST/AS will equip him to address the systemic problems of overlooked communities in his field and the state.
