UConn School of Nursing, Class of 2017

I was born in Springfield, MA, but I live and was raised in Suffield, CT. I’m currently working towards my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

During summers in high school, I worked as an intern for a non-profit agency that provided services such as access to food banks and house weatherization to a large urban population in Springfield, MA. Through my work there, I had the chance to communicate with many members of the community and gain first-hand knowledge of the many health care related issues that the people of the community dealt with on a daily basis. I’ve also volunteered for many hours reading to elementary school children, spending time with the elderly in nursing homes, and assembling and distributing holiday food baskets to families in need.

Though I was raised in Suffield, CT, a small suburban town, much of family resides in Springfield, MA, so I spend a lot of time in that city. Going back and forth between Suffield and Springfield, I have witnessed many disparities, in healthcare as well as in other areas, between the two. I would like to play my part in overcoming these discrepancies. My involvement with the Urban Service Track will provide me with the opportunity to give back to underserved populations. It will also allow me to learn even more about these populations through hands-on experience, experience I will make use of throughout my nursing career.
