Abhishek Gupta
UConn School of Medicine
I was born in Cortland, New York and grew up in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. I graduated from the University of Connecticut with bachelor’s degrees in Biological Sciences, Sociology, and Spanish in December 2020.
My previous healthcare experiences include leading advocacy on hunger and homelessness at both a national and local level, and working to address food insecurity and mental health issues amongst college students. Additionally, I have volunteered aiding patient populations in Hartford, Connecticut in addressing the social determinants of their health, and have worked as a medical scribe at the UConn Health Center.
I sought to join the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program because I believe that good health is the foundation of success in every other aspect of life, and that the role and function of health care must not only be to treat ailments, but also to prevent them in the first place. I hope to use my experience as a UST/AHEC scholar to further my understanding of how current disparities in access to health care function and grow. Furthermore, I hope to learn how these situations can be improved through collaborative approaches and community outreach so that I am best equipped to practice medicine in an inclusive and dignified manner, and to help make the healthcare community more equitable.
