Abby Card
UConn School of Nursing
I was born in Charlotte, North Carolina but I grew up and was raised in Killingly, Connecticut. I graduated as the Salutatorian from Killingly High School in 2021, and began pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Connecticut in the fall 2021 semester.
My volunteer experience included the Junior Volunteer Program at Day Kimball Hospital, in which I engaged in patient transport and patient interaction throughout the facility. I am a Certified Nursing Assistant, and have experience working with the geriatric population in a long-term care facility. This summer, I will be working as a Student Nurse at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA on the med-surg unit.
I sought involvement in UST/AS because I am passionate about the importance of disease prevention and health promotion, especially for the populations who have continuously been disadvantaged in those areas. I want to be a nurse who cares for the physical, mental, and emotional health of my patients, and I believe that this program can help me develop the skills todo that. This program will help me make a difference in the world of healthcare by enhancing my leadership skills, knowledge of culturally competent care, and ability to spread my service and nursing care to underserved populations.
