Carly Malesky
UConn School of Medicine
I was born and raised in Milford, Connecticut. I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a dual degree in physiology & neurobiology and psychology with a minor in neuroscience.
My volunteer experience includes acting as program director at Camp Horizons, where I coordinated activities to support individuals with developmental disabilities and recruited participants from the University of Connecticut. I also volunteer and serve as a unit leader assistant at Camp Promise, a summer camp for individuals with neuromuscular disorders. Through HuskyTHON, I coordinated fundraising opportunities in the lead up to and during the dance marathon to benefit Connecticut Children’s. At Connecticut Children’s Injury Prevention Center, I investigated prominent risk factors of elderly falls after visualizing their detrimental effect firsthand as a certified nursing assistant (CNA).
I applied for the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program with the goal of expanding my impact on preventing elderly falls and promoting my advocacy efforts for individuals with disabilities. Having worked on interdisciplinary teams as a CNA, I now aspire to continue working with the healthcare professionals who have taught me the standards of care that I adhere to today. I want to maintain meaningful relationships with all of my patients as individuals and to develop a sincere understanding of different cultural norms and diverse backgrounds. Through the UST/AS Program, I aspire to become more aware of prominent barriers to health care and to innovate solutions to these challenges.
