Lisa Fredrickson

UConn School of Dental Medicine, Class of 2019

I was born and raised in the small beach town of Westbrook, CT and in 2014 graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology with specialization in Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, and Genetics with a minor in Dance.

As a student at BU, I got involved with the Community Service Center. Through the Center, I joined programs such as the First Year Student Outreach Program, which provided aid to the elderly population of Boston, and Alternative Spring Breaks, which provided aid to international refugees at the International Rescue Committee. I volunteered through Global Medical Brigades to provide medical service to an underserved rural area in Honduras. Throughout college, I worked as a peer tutor and led a preparatory organic chemistry class as an OrgoPrep Leader and Co-Coordinator. I also studied in Auckland, New Zealand where I worked in a microbiology lab isolating and identifying bacteriophage function.

By pursuing the Urban Service Track, I hope to cultivate a more well-rounded approach to oral health as it applies to overall health. Dental care, as an important aspect of comprehensive healthcare, is too often overlooked in discussions of general bodily health. My goal is to work alongside other health professionals in the UST to generate a more holistic approach that can provide proper support and care to populations that need them most, especially populations unable to seek them independently.
