Michelle Chen
UConn School of Medicine
I was born in Tallahassee, FL, and raised in Nanjing, China. In 2023, I graduated from Smith College with a B.A. in biochemistry and a Five College Certificate in Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice.
Following graduation, I worked as a research technician in the Medoff Lab of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). I also volunteered at the emergency department of MGH, where I provided compassionate and culturally sensitive care to immigrant populations in Boston, MA. I also wrote blog posts for Safe Passage, a nonprofit shelter for survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse in Western Massachusetts.
Through the UST/AS Program, I hope to build skills in health policy, advocacy, and financing to improve care for underserved urban populations. I also aim to work collaboratively with other health professionals to address systemic healthcare challenges. The competencies I cultivate at UST/AS will allow me to provide compassionate, culturally sensitive, and holistic care as an emergency medicine physician in Connecticut.
