Oscar Vargas-Rodriguez
I was born and raised in Mérida, a small city nestled in the Venezuelan Andes. I moved to Ponce to attend the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, where I completed a B.S. in Chemistry in 2008. As an undergraduate student, I conducted analytical chemistry research in the lab of Prof. Margarita Rodriguez-Lopez as an LS-AMP fellow. I later moved to Columbus to pursue my PhD degree in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The Ohio State University under the mentorship of Dr. Karin Musier-Forsyth. After earning my PhD in 2014, I joined the laboratory of Dr. Dieter Söll in the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University as a postdoctoral researcher. I joined the faculty at UConn Health in 2022 as a tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biophysics.
In my spare time, I love spending time with my family, traveling, food, listening to podcasts, and watching sitcom reruns. I am also an avid football (soccer) fan.
