Initiation/Engagement of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse or Dependence Treatment
(IET-AD)
The following information represents the percentage of private insurance beneficiaries 18 years and older with a new episode of alcohol or other drug (AOD) abuse or dependence who received:
- Initiation of AOD treatment. Percentage of beneficiaries who initiated treatment through an inpatient AOD admission, outpatient visit, intensive outpatient encounter or partial hospitalization, telehealth, or medication treatment within 14 days of the diagnosis.
- Engagement of AOD Treatment. Percentage of beneficiaries who initiated treatment and who had two or more additional AOD services or medication treatment within 34 days of the initiation visit.
In 2015, the year prior to the CT SIM implementation, 40.8% of all beneficiaries initiated AOD treatment within 14 days of diagnosis and 15.7% of beneficiaries who initiated treatment had two or more additional AOD services within 34 days of the initiation visit.
After the CT SIM implementation in 2016, males were more likely to have a follow-up visit than females. In 2017, the most recent year data are available, 41.2% of males with private insurance had a follow-up visit within 14 days, and 17.1% had a follow-up visit within 34 days. In comparison, 36.2% of females had a follow-up visit within 14 days, and 13.7% had a follow-up visit within 30 days.
