Premature Death Due to Cardiovascular Disease Definition:  Cardiovascular disease is any health problem that includes the heart or blood vessels.  It is the leading cause of death in the US.  This measure estimated the number of Years of Potential Life Lost (YPLL) for persons dying before age 75 due to premature death related to cardiovascular disease.

Connecticut Counties

• During the CT SIM pre-implementation years (2013-2015) all of the counties saw a reduction in YPLL due to cardiovascular disease except for New Haven, which experienced a small increase.
• In 2016, the first CT SIM implementation year, the rate of YPLL due to cardiovascular disease increased for five counties (Fairfield, Hartford, Middlesex, Tolland, and Windham) while the remaining three counties (Litchfield, New Haven, and New London) saw a decrease in YPLL due to cardiovascular disease.
• In 2017, the counties with the highest YPLL rates were New London (997.0), Windham (896.6) and New Haven (820.4). The counties with the lowest YPLL rates in 2017 were Middlesex (510.9), Tolland (571.8), and Fairfield (606.1).
