Adult Diabetes by Insurance Type
Summary of Results
- The percentage of adult Connecticut residents who reported being told they have diabetes varied by insurance type.
- Adults with Medicare insurance reported the highest percentage of diabetes. This may be due in large part to the fact that a diagnosis of diabetes increases with age and the vast majority of those covered by Medicare are over 65 years old.
- Adults with private insurance were least likely to report having diabetes.
- In 2018, of adult Connecticut residents who reported being told they had diabetes, 6.0% had private insurance, 10.7% had other/unknown type of insurance, 10.4% had Medicaid insurance, and 19.5% had Medicare insurance. The coefficient of variation, which was used to assess the reliability of the estimates, was greater than 15% for the “No Medical Insurance” category, and therefore were not reported.
