Audiology

Audiology is the area of medicine responsible for treating hearing, balance, and other related disorders. Audiologists will evaluate impairments from hearing issues and then focus on rehabilitation to minimize the effects.

An audiological assessment can determine not only the cause of hearing loss but also the degree and type of hearing loss. The assessment consists of a series of tests, and the results are combined to offer comprehensive information about the impairment. The more thorough the understanding of the hearing loss, the greater the likelihood of successful treatment.

Treatment options frequently include hearing aids, cochlear implants, or other assistive listening devices to restore hearing. Preventative steps to slow or eliminate further hearing loss are also commonly recommended.
