Pre-College Academic Enrichment Program: UConn Storrs

Aetna Health Professions Partnership Initiative

The Program Is:

  • For college pre-freshmen who will be matriculating at UConn. Priority consideration will be given to pipeline participants.
  • A five-week summer program.
  • Focused on enhancing the preparation of high school seniors for college.
  • Held on the campus of UConn in Storrs.
  • Designed to provide solid development of scientific, mathematical, communications, problem-solving, and test taking skills through courses in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Calculus.
  • Structured to provide room and board.

The Pre-College Academic Enrichment Program held at UConn Storrs is in collaboration with the BRIDGE program sponsored by the Engineering Diversity Office in the School of Engineering at the UConn Storrs campus. Students in both programs will receive the same course instruction and room and board accommodations, and will participate in the same activities during the five-week period. Participants in the Pre-College Academic Enrichment Program will also have opportunities to visit the UConn Health campus in Farmington and interact with professionals in the health fields. For pre-freshmen who have applied to or will be matriculating in UConn’s School of Engineering and plan to major in engineering fields other than Biomedical Engineering, please visit the BRIDGE website for more information.

How to Apply

All Applicants Should:

  • Be college pre-freshmen who will be matriculating at UConn with a ‘B’ average or better.
  • Have a high motivation and demonstrated potential for pursuing a career in medicine, dental medicine or biomedical research.
  • Be from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in the health professions (African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Native Alaskan, Native Hawaiian) or others from disadvantaged backgrounds who meet all eligibility criteria and have a high probability of fulfilling the social and educational goals of this program.
  • Submit a completed application form using the online system here. The application is available for you to work on the components prior to submitting online. An online submission is required for your application to be reviewed. 
  • Have an official transcript submitted from each high school attended.
  • Provide two letters of recommendation, at least one from a science teacher.
  • Provide a copy of your Federal Income Tax Form 1040 or equivalent for the current tax year (submit 1040 when completed and filed).
  • Submit official SAT and/or ACT score report.

Priority consideration will be given to Pipeline participants.

Important Dates

  • May 1, 2024: Submission date for all applications
  • July 1, 2024: First day (move-in) of program
  • August 2, 2024: Last day of program
